Beware of the cancellation policies of your chosen
accommodation provider.
Check whether breakfast is included and is it a cooked English breakfast
or a continental breakfast.
Are the rooms ensuite, private or shared facilities - the definitions
can be different from those in different countries.
The Diamond and Star grading systems are an excellent means of determining
the levels of service, facilities, cleanliness and friendliness
of any bed and breakfast or hotel.
The grading system for hotels and B&B's has been
standardised and all will now be graded by
stars - 1 to 5. This should cut out some of the confusion as many
people did not understand the old diamond grading. The additions
of checks on insurance and fire safety is now included in the grading
scheme.
Budget hotels are normally denoted by having the word "travel" in their name, such as Travel Lodge.
